How To Present Well Online

I came across a great post today by Leslie Poston on some of the best practices for presenting remotley. As budgets shift away from travel, it is going to become more and more importantly that people learn to give a convincing, passionate demonstration using tools like WebEx or GoToMeeting. This morning I was on a presentation and the leaf blower was running right outside my office, so I can probably appreciate this tip more than any of the others:
Even if it hot out, close windows and doors to eliminate traffic noise and appliance noise from other parts of your home, and turn the air conditioner and fan off for the duration of your recording or call. That low hum may not sound like much to you, but depending on the tools you have for conducting your meeting, it can be amplified to a jet engine level roar for your listeners. If you are working on a laptop, either refrain from typing or mute your mic while you type - laptop keystrokes sound like little gunshots to the listener.
I'm a voracious note taker and I think that there are two schools of thought on this.  One, it can be annoying to the person on the other end of the line. On the flipside of that, though, I think that it conveys a level of interest in the group you're talking to, especially when you follow up with the all too important discovery letter.
