Rhymes with Cars

I got an interesting email tonight from a reader of my HouseBlog saying that she tried to post comments to my site, but they never seemed to go through. As a bit of history, I publish that site using WordPress.com. Her email was nice and I went into comments to take a look at what the issue was. Oddly, her comments were blocked by Akismet, WordPress' default spam tool. I thought that it was a bit strange as the comments didn't have additional URL's or key words that I have identified and didn't include anything else that might classify it as SPAM. Her contact information appeared as such: NAME: Her Name URL: http://herurl.livejournal.com EMAIL: aliasNOSPAM@aol.com COMMENTS: Her comments. Nothing out of the ordinary there. Often times, when filling out forms, people will put 'NOSPAM' as a way to keep bots from scraping their email address. Perhaps, I thought, that maybe Akismet read the SPAM tag that she put on there and added it to the spam folder. I responded with this thought and she threw up a comment using her standard email address (no spam). Again, same result, comment immediately went to SPAM. That is strange, thought I. Maybe, I joked, WordPress.com intentionally blocks comments from LiveJournal users as a competitive edge. Once again, this diligent reader of mine went back and added a comment using a different URL, but the original aliasNOSPAM@aol.com address. Wouldn't you know it, the comment went through without problems. I then had to try it out and I went to a couple of WordPress.com sites and added comments using a made up LiveJournal URL. In all cases, WP.com didn't include my comments on the page. Wow!!! I can't imagine that this was done intentionally, but I don't know. I've met Toni a couple of times when he was at YHOO and he seems pretty stand-up. It does seem strange, though. A couple of quick, but not too thorough, searches yeilds nothing of this sort. Can anyone shed any light on this? Are LJ users really not allowed to use their LJ URL in WP.com blogs?
