The Rumors Are True
Early last week, I announced my resignation from Yahoo. After almost 4 years, I feel that it is time to move on.
Long story short, I was hired into Yahoo as part of the now long defunct Yahoo Enterprise Solutions. This was an extension of the Broadcast.com acquisition and we sold a lot of technology based on the Yahoo front end and taxonomy to IT organizations at Fortune pick a number type of companies. Unfortunately, about 6 months into my gig, Dan & Terry made the wise decision that Yahoo isn't, nor will it ever be, a software or a technology company. We are a media company, they said, as they started to shutter Y! ES.
Since I really love the company, I didn't want to leave and I took the roll managing the revenue for the Yahoo consumer messenger product. This was a major detour in my career (going from selling enterprise software to managing a consumer Internet product???), but I had a strong desire to stay and I wanted to learn as much as I could about the consumer advertising business as I could. What the hell? Why go and get an MBA when I can live the experience and get paid to do so?
From there, I jumped into the ad sales side of the house working on the Yahoo Recruitment Advertising team, which has been a great experience, but I've had the desire to get back into technology and managment for quite a while. When the opportunity came up at Hyperion, I did more due diligence than you can imagine. When everything came back positive, I made the leap.
There will be more to come on this new gig at Hyperion as I become more immersed in things. For now, though, I know that I have two open headcount for sales reps in the Bay Area (internal promotions). If you're interested in learning more about this, drop me a line with a really good cover letter.
