3 Years at Yahoo! --- W00T
Tomorrow is technically my 3 year anniversary at Yahoo, which I suppose, based on the growth since I've been here, makes me an old timer.
It's been a really fun 3 years though. My journey here has consisted of:
Hired on as sales rep for Yahoo! Enterprise Solutions. Enterprise Yahoo! Companion!!! - There was a winner Moved to sales management role during the shut down of this team - Wa, wa, waaaa A career shift into a sales operations role on the consumer messenger team - Awesome experience, I now see product development in a whole new light. Thank you Tom Shin for giving me the chance to join that team. A career shift back into direct sales with the HotJobs division where we are in the early stages of redefining how online recruitment is done.My ride has made Mr. Toads look passive. The thing that I really love about it though, and I know it sounds very Kool-aidy, is that in 3 years I have had the opportunity to try out 3 different rolls in 3 very different businesses. IMO, this is pretty unique compared to a lot of companies that I have seen or been part of where employees often get pigeon-holed into their titles. Brendan made an interesting comment today to the effect of each year of experience at Yahoo (or Google, eBay, Apple, or whatever big company) is worth $2MM in first round venture funding (should you want to go that route) or one or two title promotions at a smaller company. I think that it was more anecdotal than anything, but it is probably fairly accurate based on what people here have gone on to do when they left. In the next iteration of my career, I want to start my own company (Don't worry, Peter, it is still a ways off). Even if Brendan's numbers are exaggerated by several multiples, it is still a pretty good start to look forward to. Here's looking forward to prosperous future.

Man, if you're an old timer, what's that make me? :-)
