Google Desktop Search

Google has had a ton of bad press this past week, what with their stock dumping 28%.  Oh how the mighty have fallen.  One day you are Wall Streets darlings and can do no wrong and the next week you are down in the dumps. I can't say that the Barons article was helpful for them.  Nor was Eric Schmidt's comments about not caring about the stock holders.   I hate to say I told you so, but... This week a release also came out that the EFF states that Google Desktop Search is the worst thing for society since Centex Nerve Gas and they strongly encourage users not to use Google Desktop Search.
"[We urge] consumers not to use this feature, because it will make their personal data more vulnerable to subpoenas from the government and possibly private litigants, while providing a convenient one-stop-shop for hackers who've obtained a user's Google password," the EFF said in a statement.
I don't have a whole lot of sexy stuff on my machine, but I still don't want this hanging out on GOOG's servers.  I would imagine that any organization that has any type of competitive concern at all would also want their users to shy away from installing Google Desktop Search. Again, the Google PR machine, using its magic bracelets, has managed to once again deflect what should be a swarm of bad press and only managed to upset the EFF.   As always, I am amazed at how they manage to spin the bad into nothing at all and the average into something spectacular.

Scott, you will like this....

I just removed Google Desktop from my computer at work. Not only am I unable to live with "share across" anything, the damn thing was killing my Outlook at every other turn.

Now I understand that MS products don't play well with others, but Outlook is a "must have" app and Google is a "I don't really need it" app (especially now that I have X1 running).

So, Google is out and X1 is in.

See, I told you that you would like it.
